Introduction

Quite possibly the most famous ladybird series, though very rarely refered to by its series number. With the advent of new teaching methods in the 1960's there was a massive gap in the market for a more structured approach to teaching reading. That is where William Murray stepped in to produce the Peter & Jane books, so successful that they are still in print today, with numerous revisions of course.

Though this series started before dust jackets had been phased out none of these titles were issued with jackets. There have been many revisions throughout the series long history, the next page shows a detailed breakdown, though it does not address the artwork revisions that also occured to keep the images current.
