Another of ladybirds most memorable series. The Well Loved Tales were a great success judging by fact that some titles (although revised) are still published even today. Although the stories have been revised through the years the originals were all written, or rather retold, by Vera Southgate. Although the artists varied they all adopted the same style which has helped give this series its wonderful feel.

Only Cinderella was ever published with a dust jacket for a very short time. After 1965, this together with all the others in the series were issued in the standard matt covers. The history of the entire series is very, very complex since some of the books were revised and many books are still in print today.
