Puppies and Kittens First published in 1956 this title set the tone for a whole new series of Learning to Read books. Written by M.E.Gagg with illustrations by H.Woolley. The idea was by frequent repitition of words together with clear pictures to give young readers the chance to almost teach themselves how to read. These books clearly mark the way Ladybird was to make its mark with the stunningly successful Keywords series. Originally published with dust jacket over a plain cover, this title carried on well into the early seventies. First editions have brown ladybird endpapers, together with a catalogue page at the back. The first edition also has a blue/grey textured cover with a brown line drawing, the text on the spine also reads top to bottom. |
