| Introduction Wills & Hepworth once again got a known "name" in to write for them. This series had Max Kester from the radio writing about the classic stories of daring & adventure by Robin Hood. In the Boy's Own style these two stories greatly benefited from the excellent artwork of John Kenney. Although the books were published very much later than the classic Errol Flynn film ("Adventures of Robin Hood - 1938") they are obviously heavily influenced by it - the bright & clean colours shown are pure Hollywood. The books originally both came with dust jackets, although there seemed to be a lot of changes in font style and colour with very early copies. Both books continued for many years, and it was only in the late 1970's that they seem to have been changed to become part of series 740. One very interesting feature is that on the dustjacket cover text of the last book Max tells us to watch out for some more titles which never appeared. |
