The Impatient Horse

Written by George Murray with some stylised illustrations (not unlike those of Wonk) from Xenia Berkeley.

First published in 1953, the story is about Horace the Milkman's horse. Written in a rhyming style the story could be called slightly contrived. Getting bored waiting for the milkman to have a cup of tea the children end up riding off with Horace. Finding adventures thick and fast, they succeed in winning a horse race, helping to put a fire out, being the best horse in an army parade and best carthorse. Eventually finding the way back home, the milkman having just finished his tea, all the milk gone but prizes and rewards galore instead seem to please milko. Horace's reward seems to be retirement, and he learns to be a patient horse.

Not in print very long this title tends to be one of the very hardest to obtain with or without a dust jacket. On the rare occasions when this title does appear expect to see it gone quickly at very high prices.
