British Wild Animals

Another title from George Cansdale. First published in 1958, this title covers the main wild animals to be found in Britain. Illustrations come from Roland Green.

Although the format is the same as the Book of Pets the subject matter is much tighter and the target reader age is obviously slightly older. The book presents one or more animals per spread, the animals being pictured in their typical surroundings and informative description about their habits. Without such a large range as Pets the book achieves that classic Ladybird goal of presenting information in a simple but comprehensive manner.

Being published at such an early date, they would have come originally with dust jackets and featuring the early "open-winged" ladybird logo. These books stayed in print for a considerable length of time and were obviously very popular.
