British Birds & Their Nests

This book marked quite a departure for Wills & Hepworth. Indeed, accounts of how this series came into being (Ladybird, Ladybird - Radio 4, 28/12/01) showed just how radical a move it was at the time. With text by Brian Vesey-Fitzgerald and detailed drawings from Allen W.Seaby. The book itself comprises of simply a series of the more common birds found in Britain, very similar to the recognition style books.

Early editions came stated together with the year. They can also be noticed easily beccause the cover title text is white, at a later stage this was changed to black. As with the other ladybird books, all those published up to 1965 would have come with dust jacket. It is hard to know exactly when they were withdrawn but it seems likely that the release of the other bird observation books in this series would have made these redundant.
