Another very popular ladybird series; each book dealt with the anthromorphic adventures of an animal. The overall style of the series is very consistant with all stories by Noel Barr and illustrations by P.B.Hickling. All the stories have a strong moral theme about them and the "quaint" artwork adds to give them quite a dated feel.

The series originally extended to ten books but post-dustjacket they were trimmed down to the most popular six. "Inquisitive Harvest Mouse", "Cocky the Lazy Rooster", "Sleepy Water Vole" & "Conceited Lamb" never making it to matt editions, as can be seen from the scan from a 1973 catalogue.

All editions originally came out with a pasted on panel under the dustjacket and pencil style line drawings on the ednpapers. Eventually these changed to the plain buff style with the single colour line drawing on the front, the endpapers losing their pencil drawings.
