  Introduction

This series of books was the second standard ladybird series to be published. Overall they seem to lack some of the consistency of the other contemporary series since there is no central theme common to all the books. From rhymes to traditional fairy stories the titles are very different. The authors and artists chop and change around further adding to the slightly confused nature.

The series has also suffered with large scale revisions and addition and deletions of books. The two early nursery rhyme books were soon replaced by three titles. The fairy tales were also soon superseeded by those in series 606d (Well Loved Tales). By 1973 only those books shown in the photograph survived.

All the original titles would have been issued in dust jackets, some of the earlier ones with the picture cover underneath (as opposed to the later buff covers). Obviously after the revisions those titles came in their standard matt format.
