| Downy
Duckling The first post war book. My earliest copy (4th, 1949) gives a first edition in 1946. Again the story and illustrations are done by A.J.MacGregor but this time the verses were done initially by Perirng and were not revised further. Downy duckling and his friend Monty go down to the river to colelct water on a cold winters day. Downy and Monty both fall in to the freezing water. Their friends rush to help and after lots of pulling on Monty's tail they heave him out. But no sign of Downy...they wander off back to their home disconsolate. Suddenly up pops Downy back through the hole. They drag him out and its back off to home for hot drinks all round. |
